CLEVELAND PARADE"S THE CIRCLE 2011 WITH THE PETER MAX MOTIF

When a private art center sponsors and helps promote an HOMAGE to Peter Max, it makes me feel honored to be his collector, and it inspires me to continue believing that PETER's art is still alive and well and posed for posterity.

The kids and their parents/teachers made a real effort to obtain this colorful ensemble, perhaps only one insignificant mistake among the ad-lib costumes, and that most people commit,  is linking the Yellow Submarine to Peter instead than to Heinz Edelmann, the actual creator.

Future American artists... thumbs up!

Beck Center's Visual Arts Department staff outdid themselves with this year's entry in Parade the Circle on June 11. Over the course of five months, their vision became reality with To The Max!, a tribute to '60s artist and peace and love guru, Peter Max, with a colorful, cohesive and psychedelic entry. A special thanks to Susan Gallagher, associate director of visual arts, and her PTC crew for all of their hard work! View the link below to see their marvelous display of creativity. THE "RUNNER IN RED ARTWORK" - CIRCA 1969

When I took PETER's photos in July of 1972, one of them had him comfortably sitting on a couch beneath a large version of the RUNNER IN RED creation.

This artwork is perhaps one of the most faithful representatives of the COSMIC era since it has all the components of that period of his  incredible psychedelic/Pop worlds.

These are the two versions of the images, the original one in Black and White, that although a bit out of focus ( I used to experiment with Highly Exposed film, big grainy prints, and I did my own lab developing), and then, a superimposing I photoshoped of a copy from the Rileys's book The Art of PETER MAX, page 9, published in 2002 by Harry Abrams Inc.

 B & W version

Edited version with the distinctive Cosmic trademark: The Runner (same as the Cosmic Runner artwork), the colorful world, the stars, and the assorted miscellaneous inexplicable elements.

I found out today that the original "Runner in Red" was a project used to decorate or perhaps as part of a sales Ad on New York buses in 1969 ( info provided by John Fisher from UnfoundArt ). And one of the only small versions I've seen today is sold at Ocean Galleries in Avalon, New Jersey.

THE CRAWDADDY SEPTEMBER 1976 ISSUE

Published by Crawdaddy Publishing corp Co., this multi-content example of the Sixties publications had a 4 page spread dedicated to PETER MAX, written by Mitchell Glazer based on an interview on PETER's New York studio, probably just when he returned from his 4 years retreat between 1972 and 1976, and on the occasion of his PM PAINTS AMERICA book launch.

Following, images of the magazine and PETER's artwork included:

LADY LIBERTY CANVAS 2010 - PETER MAX MODERN SIGNATURE ARTWORK

This is my 40 x 40 ins Lady Liberty original canvas done by PETER MAX. Obtained at a Meet and Greet in Coconut Grove, Miami in May 2010.

I am not sure if the reverse is more valuable than the front, since he did it in front of me and my wife, and I can vouch for it's authenticity

LA GIOCONDA - IN COLORS

This quasi-unique (series 2 of 2) portrait of the MONA LISA, from the original Leonardo's version, version by PETER MAX. Most of the serigraphs pertain to the 200 copies series, this is only the second of 2 copies dated 1993. Its sized 30 x 40, but my copy has an additional filet on the Mate, which brings it to a hefty 44 x 53 ins.

To be sure of it;s authenticity, there are two embossed seals bellow the series number 2/2, being one of them the original seal of the MAX STUDIO, New York, and the SOMA Gallery.

An this version has a custom made filet all around between the mate and the actual serigraph.

THE DOCTOR, movie with William HURT 1991 and PETER MAX art

Scene where "The Doctor" fires her Throat doctor, whose suite is decorated with PETER MAX canvases. First one is the Blushing Beauty 30 x 40 inches, and the second one, on another hallway, is Beauty and the Fauve, also in a 30 x 40 original canvas format. Perhaps they both are Serigraphs, but of excellent quality.

SOCIETY OF ILLUSTRATORS PETER MAX AWARD 1963

Perhaps PETER's first important award or at least the most publicly reported one.

Since its inception in 1901, The Society of Illustrators has been dedicated to the advancement of the art of illustration and the welfare of persons associated with that art. (Extract from the introduction to Si63 by Stevan Dohanos, President).

In 1963, being the Fifth annual Exhibition of American Illustration,  and with a 5 panels of jurors and 307 exhibits, PETER MAX, with some intervention of Tom Daly, peter was granted page N. 2 of the book of awards in the ADVERTISING GOLD MEDAL:
