SOCIETY OF ILLUSTRATORS PETER MAX AWARD 1963

Perhaps PETER's first important award or at least the most publicly reported one.

Since its inception in 1901, The Society of Illustrators has been dedicated to the advancement of the art of illustration and the welfare of persons associated with that art. We recognize our responsibility to maintain and preserve the lifeline of American Illustration and the graphic arts which, throughout the years, have contributed much to the field of communications and thus have helped build the image of America. (Extract from the introduction to Si63 by Stevan Dohanos, President).

In 1963, being the Fifth annual Exhibition of American Illustration,  and with a 5 panels of jurors and 307 exhibits, PETER MAX, with some intervention of Tom Daly, peter was granted page N. 2 of the book of awards in the ADVERTISING GOLD MEDAL:
