 Original 1981 KENTUCKY DERBY poster

The poster series began as a simple marketing project designed to 

generate pre-season interest in the Derby Festival in 1981.

Though primarily an honor for homegrown talent, some 

internationally renowned artists have designed the poster

, including Peter Max, Julius Friedman and Michael Schwab.

There is a poster for "The World of Peter Max" museum and 

gallery tour of 1970 beginning at the de Young Museum in San Francisco. 

As well as promotional posters that Peter created for companies including 

NBC-TV, The American Cancer Society, Capitol Records, 

Instant Nutriment breakfast drink, National Library Week, 

the movie Paint Your Wagon, The Peace Corps & J C Penney.

  headquartered in Atlanta. Mindspring merged

with Earthlink on February 4, 2000, with the company retaining

the EarthLink name. In 2006, the MidSpring brand was relaunched by

EarthLink as a free ervice, which was discontinued in early 20

CONSIDERED BY PM AS ONE OF HIS BEST WORKS

Continental Airlines commissioned artist Peter Max to design this special color scheme as a salute for "NYC 2000" and New York City. It was unveiled in November 1999. Boeing 777-224 ER N77014 (msn 29862) awaits runway departure clearance at London's Gatwick Airport.  Newly arrived detailed die cast version 12 inches long

One of Continental Airlines' Boeing 777 aircraft (registered N77014) sported 
a special livery designed by Max. The livery was removed

in the winter of 2007–2008 (wikipedia)

This is a beautifully hand made wooden replica  of aprox. 8 inches.

I believe it was originally painted  around 2002.

 His art has flown the skies on a Continental Airlines 777 Super Jet. His installations include a 600-ft stage for the Woodstock Music Festival, a giant mural 
for the Winter Olympics and 10-ft guitars for the Rock &

1973 PSYCHEDELIC SCENT FOR PETER MAX

This a tiny 2 1/2 ins bottle of the original scent of Strawberry, franchised by SUNSHINE for PETER MAX. You open the bottle and immediately you will have reminiscences of those Seventies years and the COSMIC posters that were so part of us at that time. this is a very uncommon Peter Max souvenir. Next to it an image of the raspberry bottle

PETER was so popular that MARCEL ROCHAS used his "Love" design for a 1968 perfume Advertising.

WHAT IS A FAUVE? HOW DOES PM USE THE FAUVE CONCEPT

 Fauvism is a movement in French painting that revolutionized the concept of color in modern art. Fauves earned their name ("les fauves"-wild beasts) by shocking exhibit visitors on their first public appearance, in 1905.
   At the end of the nineteenth century, neo Impressionist painters were already using pure colors, but they applied those colors to their canvases in small strokes. The fauves rejected the impressionist palette of soft, shimmering tones in favor of radical new style, full of violent color and bold distortions.
   These painters never formed a movement in the strict sense of the word, but for years they would nurse a shared ambition, before each went his separate and more personal way.

Hence, Peter Max is a true follower of the FAUVES, we can see it in these pieces:

This FAUVE period of Max was part of his evolution from the COSMIC-PSYCHEDELIC era to the use of different palettes Nd concepts around 1978.

FINALLY I GOT THE MISSING PATRIOTIC PIECE

I finally received the FLAG with HEART, 30 x 40 ins Original Canvas. Not that I go nuts with this particular design, it feel its a bit naive and childish, yet, being the American Flag, it's a must in any decent household and a great investment.

This year 2011, PETER MAX will be 74 years old, his life has been full of experiences and he has gained the title of The Icon of American Pop Art. Following, few of his interesting quotes:

1-  I never know what I'm going to put on the canvas. The canvas paints itself. I'm just the middleman.

2- There's nothing like New Orleans. When it comes back, it will be a tremendous highlight for America. 

3-   On his HEART creation: I had to do something about Katrina and I didn't want to paint the horrors of Katrina. And I thought, America is pouring their heart out for Katrina, so I created a heart

Very rare book on Crochet. Dated 1972, no, Peter did not do the items, but he fantasticaly designed all the Artwork of the book. In different pages there are versions of his classics, such as the Cosmic Runner.

THE BLUSHING BEAUTY FROM THE ROMANCE SERIES

THE BLOSSOM LADY (or BLUSHING BEAUTY according to some galleries). Its a 30 x 24" Acrylic on canvas dated 2010, no other Mixed media, but fully hand painted by the MAX. Extremely rich in colors and quality... a real beauty. There a series of PM art pieces with the Beauty concept.

Extract from PEOPLE magazine Sept 1976, Vol 12:

PM, "We had millions of dollars coming in, but millions going out, too," says Max, who found after the dissolution of his business that he was $500,000 in debt. He has since paid off the creditors by selling his paintings. His marriage to Liz Nance, a former North Carolina beauty queen and mother of his two children, Adam Cosmo, 12, and Libra Astro, 9, has not escaped change either. The Maxes are still married but increasingly independent. Max lives in his two-story studio and Liz lives nearby. His current muse is Ford model Roseanne Vela, inspiration for many of Max's current paintings. 

Along with  the huge BEAUTY, I acquired the small companion made in porcelain dated 1990 with the Franklin Mint COA on the back, very neat.
